Dr. Mona Mourshed

Mona is a partner with McKinsey & Company’s Dubai Office, where her recent work focuses on education system reform in the region and globally. She leads the public sector practice of the Middle East, and is a co-leader of the Firm’s global education initiative. She also leads recruiting for the Dubai office, as well as leads skill-building programs for all female consultants in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Mona initially joined McKinsey’s New Jersey office and has served clients in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. Examples of her recent experiences include:

  • Comprehensive education system reform diagnostic, strategy and implementation for the primary, secondary, vocational, and tertiary levels in a Middle Eastern country, with a focus on how to meet national economic growth and leadership needs
  • Strategy for a gifted and talented program for all qualifying school age children in a Middle Eastern country and development of an implementation plan
  • Strategy and implementation of a program to raise literacy rates at the primary school level in a South American country
  • Diagnostic of a public education system of a Middle Eastern state and identification of improvement areas relative to international best practice

Mona has a B.A. in development studies from Stanford University, where she graduated with high honors. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in economic development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While at MIT, she received nationally competitive fellowships and authored multiple articles in leading economic development journals. Mona has received multiple external awards, including recent selection as a global ‘Rising Talent’ (program sponsored by JPMorgan) by theWomen’s Forum 2007.
