Jeddah Chamber of Commerce Sign Agreement with the Gulf Research Center on Organizing the Jeddah Economic Forum Jeddah July 22nd, 2009 The Chairman of the Saudi Council of Chambers and the Chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mohammad Abdul Qader al-Fadhl, announced in Jeddah on July 22nd, 2009 that the Tenth Jeddah economic Forum will be held as scheduled on February 13th, 2010, after it has been suspended in 2009. This new round of the Jeddah economic Forum will discuss the future of the global economy during the next decade. Mr. al-Fadhl added that H.R.H. Prince Khaled al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Prince of the Mecca Province, and H.E Minister of Trade and Industry Abdullah bin Ahmed Zaynal, have approved the topics of the forum, its main themes, sessions and date. The announcement was made on the occasion of signing a strategic agreement with the Dubai-based Gulf Research Centre at the office of the Chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce. According to the agreement, the Gulf Research Centre will be the knowledge provider for the main topics of the forum slated to be held at the Jeddah International Convention Centre over a period of four days. “Given the important economic developments after the global economic crisis which has adversely affected most of the countries in the world, the forum will focus on the global economy during the next decade with special emphasis on the most important sectors for economy such as the financial and banking sectors, as well as those of energy, food security, health, education and information technology during the following ten years” said al-Fadhl. He added furthermore that “…the finance ministers of Russia, Germany, the United States of America as well as former heads of states who are interested in the current financial situation, will be invited to participate in the forum.” On this occasion the Chairman of the Gulf Research Centre, Abdulaziz bin Othman bin Sager, welcomed the strategic agreement with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce to organize the tenth Jeddah Economic Forum, adding that GRC has always been keen on extending its expertise, research and studies in order to promote the Jeddah economic Forum which attracts prominent Saudi businessmen and economic experts. The Jeddah Economic Forum was postponed before a decision was taken to suspend it in 2009. Nevertheless, it is going to be held from 13th to 16th February in 2010. Saudi, regional and international renowned economists will participate in this event and present their perspectives about the global economic crisis. The Jeddah Economic Forum was first launched by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2001. It is considered to be the biggest annual economic event in Asia and Africa, and the second most important international economic forum after Davos. The Jeddah Economic Forum brings every year business people and famous specialists in the fields of industry, banking and finance from over 160 countries together in order to discuss local, regional and international economic trends. The ninth round of the Forum had had a record number of participants and people who have been awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize. The number of sponsors had also increased to 34 sponsors representing the most prominent Saudi and international companies operating in the Saudi market.
